SUMMARY:If We Save One Life\, We Save the World
DESCRIPTION:This is a Muslim-Jewish-Interfaith event featuring a Palestinian and an Israeli doctor; both members of the Project Rozana team who are working to save the lives of serious ill Palestinian children and help improve the overall quality of health care for Palestinians. They will speak to those gathered at Dr. Chaudhry’s home in highly personal terms about their experiences and motivations. \nProject Rozana arranges for the treatment of critically-ill Palestinian children in Israeli hospitals and trains Palestinian doctors\, nurses and therapists in Israeli medical institutions. These medical professionals return with enhanced skills to their hospitals and clinics in the West Bank\, Gaza and East Jerusalem\, where they are able to raise the quality of health-care for Palestinians of all ages and circumstances. \nWe are hoping to gather at least 100 guests at Dr.Chaudhry’s lovely home on November 19 to hear the Palestinian and Israeli doctors. While no guest will be asked to contribute money to attend the event\, they will be offered the opportunity\, to make tax-deductible contributions to one of three Project Rozana programs if they feel inspired to do so after hearing the presentation by the doctors. These include: \n\nProject Rozana’s “Adopt A Driver” Program\, which pays stipends to Palestinian drivers who brings sick children and adults from their homes across Palestine to checkpoints where Project Rozana has pre-arranged for them to able to cross into Israel\, and to Israeli drivers who then transport them directly to hospitals. https://projectrozana.org/road-to-recovery/\nThe Peace In Sight Appeal\, which Project Rozana has undertaken with the St. John Eye Hospital in East Jerusalem to expand treatment of hereditary eye disease among Palestinians https://projectrozana.org/peace-in-sight/.\n“Hope\, Care and Good Deeds\, a program Project Rozana co-sponsors with the Acre Arab Women’s Association\, which provides support for Palestinian children\, mainly from Gaza\, who are receiving life-saving care at Tel Ha Shomer Hospital in Tel Aviv. The program also covers the living costs of the childrens’ Palestinian chaperone/guardians who travel there with them to Tel Aviv and may need to stay there for several weeks.\n\nIn short\, Project Rozana offers an opportunity for American Muslims\, Jews and allies to come together around a joint humanitarian effort to save lives and improve access to quality health care for Palestinians living under conditions of Occupation\, While people of conscience in the two communities may disagree about the parameters of an eventual\, and desperately needed\, political settlement; we can and must come together to save children’s lives and improve conditions on the ground in the meantime. Undertaking this mission together will contribute to Muslim-Jewish cooperation and reconciliation in the U.S. as well as in Israel-Palestine.
