bell hooks, Buddhism, & Beloved Community: A Valentine’s Day Event
February 8 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Event Navigation
As a Christian Buddhist, Black scholar, and love theorist, bell hooks teaches us what is means to be in better relationship with ourselves and the world.
While alive, bell hooks frequently quoted Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh saying, “Let’s throw this pebble into the water, it may not go far in the beginning, but it will ripple out.” That’s the power of a single loving act.
This Valentine’s Day, we’d like to invite you to throw pebbles into the water with us. Come join us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST on Saturday, February 8, to make cards for the friends, family members, and loved ones who remind you that healing is always an act of communion.
We will be celebrating bell hooks’ legacy through sharing excerpts of her work and engaging in what hook’s referred to as the art of loving, or in other words, taking intentional time to extend ourselves for the spiritual growth of another. We will have craft supplies and stamps so all you need to bring is your creativity and your tenderness. We can’t wait to hear about those who matter to you and why.
Parking and space is limited, so please plan accordingly. Location and email confirmation will be provided closer to the event date.
P.S. Bagels will be served, but you are also welcome to bring any food you wish!
