Active Citizens is a social leadership training program for youth ages 18+ in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Participants will gain the skills, knowledge and motivation they need to affect social change in their community.

Active Citizens connects thousands of like-minded people around the world who collectively want to make a fairer and more inclusive society. Funded by the British Council, we are part of a global program that is delivered in 22 countries worldwide and reaches East Asia, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Middle East and North Africa, and the Americas.

Through interactive, hands-on workshops participants will:

• Gain a better understanding of the concepts of identity, culture and community, as well as the beliefs, behavior and attitudes of themselves and other people.
• Learn methods of dialogue as a tool for building empathy, trust and understanding within and across cultures.
• Apply learning by identifying a problem they would like to address and planning a social action project in their community.
• Active Citizens program is also a great opportunity to meet new people, build your confidence, develop your CV and make a difference to your community.

The training will take place in downtown Washington, D.C. October 5-7, with two additional workshops in the evenings or weekend days later in the fall (TBD based on participant availability). Participants will also receive lunch and are eligible for a travel stipend and funding to launch their social action project.
