Evening’s Film about the Oslo Accords

September 5, 2018 @ 7:30 pm

The Oslo Peace Accords, a documentary film about a time and place when peace between the Israelis and Palestinians never seemed so realistic, will be shown this coming Wednesday @ 7:30 PM at the E Street Cinema (555 11th St NW, Washington, DC 20004). The film will be followed by a conversation with the directors: Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, and producers Hilla Medalia and Ina Fichman.  JIDS is co-sponsoring the film as part of our ongoing efforts to work for peace through dialogue and understanding.  The members of the JIDS Board haven’t had a chance to view the film, but we’re encouraging each of you to attend based on the reviews we’ve seen (indicating that it is a quality film that strove to be even-handed).  I just bought my ticket and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Wednesday evening.

Here’s a summary of the film:  In 1992, with Israeli-Palestinian relations at an all-time low, a small group of Israelis and Palestinians gathered secretly in Oslo for a series of meetings that came to be known as The Oslo Accords and dramatically changed the political landscape of the Middle East. Articulated through readings of the participants’ diaries from the time, this geopolitical story features never-before-seen archival footage and exclusive interviews with key players.
