JAMAAT webinar: THE THREAT TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN AMERICA TODAY AND ITS IMPACT ON MUSLIMS AND JEWS

August 24, 2025 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

In recent weeks and months, we have seen freedom of speech come increasingly under attack by our new Administration, in actions such as lawsuits against our news media, firings of career government officials, coerced settlements with universities and law firms, and deportations of outspoken students. Through actions such as these, American Jews and Muslims become especially vulnerable as minority communities. The Trump Administration is cynically weaponizing anti-Semitism in its assault on academic freedom, while openly giving voice to and encouraging Islamophobia.  This ‘divide and conquer’ strategy has been working all too well. Indeed, only by agreeing to disagree on aspects of the Israel-Palestine conflict, and working together for democracy, pluralism and freedom of expression in America, can Muslims, Jews, and Interfaith Allies safeguard our communities and preserve the rights of all Americans.

Speakers: Stephen Rohde, a constitutional lawyer, lecturer and political activist who serves as Special Advisor on Free Speech and the First Amendment at the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), and Arno Rosenfeld, a Reporter at the Forward and author of the Antisemitism Decoded newsletter. Moderator: Maggie Siddiqi, Non-Resident Fellow on Muslim-Jewish Partnerships at MPAC
