Non-Partisan Prayer Vigil for Peace on Election Evening

November 3, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The prayer vigil is hosted by the Clergy Emergency League Seminarians Chapter, an official chapter of the Clergy Emergency League. It is being co-organized by seminarians of various denominations, including two Master of Divinity Students at Wesley Theological Seminary, Trent Somes who made news in July after being attacked by militias and white supremacists for wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt in Gettysburg National Cemetery, and Rev. Lamika Weiss, Ministry Intern at Courts of Praise Christian Church.

They invite you to come in person or in spirit on election evening to:
˖ Condemn all forms of political violence following the election, including intrusion
by the government against peaceful protesting
˖ Come together as faith leaders and laity to lead our communities through a time
of uncertainty
˖ Call residents of the United States to love their neighbors
˖ Call upon the government to ensure a peaceful transfer of power if one is
needed
˖ Highlight the role of young leadership within faith communities in this call for
peace

The location is the SE quadrant of the National Ellipse at 15th St. and Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, DC. CDC guideline for the wearing of masks and distancing will be observed. If participants are not willing to attend in person, prayers can be submitted to be read at the vigil on their behalf.

For additional information, contact Trent Somes at [email protected] or Rev. Lamika Weiss at [email protected].
