Vigil for Refugees

January 8, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Join refugee supporters for a vigil beginning at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, January 8th in Greenbelt, Maryland. At 9 AM we will begin lining up to enter the court room, oral arguments begin at 10 AM. When the oral arguments have finished there will be a press conference with a report back.

January 8th is critical day when the federal district court in Greenbelt, MD will hear oral arguments in the lawsuit brought by HIAS, CWS (Church World Service), and LIRS (Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service), represented by IRAP (International Refugee Assistance Project), against the administration’s harmful and immoral Executive Order 13888 (EO) – which is designed to further dismantle refugee resettlement in our country. The EO allows states and localities to block resettlement in their communities by requiring them to provide written consent to continue welcoming refugees. This is yet another refugee ban – but this time, a state-by-state, city-by-city refugee ban.
