The George Washington University’s John L. Loeb Institute for Religious Freedom presents TO BIGOTRY NO SANCTION, a short documentary inspired by George Washington’s 1792 Letter to the Hebrew Congregation of Newport, Rhode Island.  The film will be followed by a discussion with Maggie Siddiqi, Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in the Department of Education, and Professor Joseph Capizzi from the Catholic University of America.

Curator’s Choice: Gateway to Luck with Patrick A. Polk

Patrick A. Polk, the Fowler’s senior curator of Latin American and Caribbean popular arts, discusses the fascinating history of a large, intricately carved, teakwood shrine located inside the Jain Center of Southern California (JCSC) in Buena Park. Modeled after a famous temple in Palitana, Gujarat, India, it was commissioned by the British colonial authorities for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. It was later purchased by Las Vegas hotelier and reinstalled at the Castaways Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.…

Screening of Soul Doctor

Be part of a one night only nationwide screening of "Soul Doctor" - a filmed musical story about the largely unknown friendship between Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and Nina Simone in 1960's America.  Their friendship transcended boundaries of faith, race, and culture, offering a powerful example of unity and harmony in a divided nation.
