Faith Across Waters: An Interfaith Ashura Gathering

July 3, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for Faith Across Waters, a sacred evening where we gather across traditions to reflect on the stories, symbols, and struggles held within Ashura — the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar.

For Sunni Muslims, Ashura commemorates the day Moses and the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, a story of divine deliverance. For Shi’a Muslims, it is a day of mourning and remembrance, honoring the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at Karbala, a story of resistance, thirst, and the pursuit of justice.

At Abrahamic House, we believe water flows through all our faiths, from parting seas, to surviving floods, to the deep thirst for justice and meaning. Together, we’ll explore Ashura through the lenses of Sunni, Shi’a, Jewish, and Christian traditions, through storytelling, writing, and intentional community.

This gathering will include:

* A circle of storytelling from each tradition
* A guided writing reflection on:
      – “A storm I’ve survived…”
– “What do I thirst for?”
      – “What does my community thirst for?”
   – “What justice issue do I thirst to change?”
* A time to share and engage with one another’s reflections in small groups

Refreshments will be served. This event is open to people of all (and no) faith traditions. Bring your story. Bring your thirst. Bring your whole self.

This event will take place on Thursday July 3rd, from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EDT. Location will be provided in a confirmation email.
