Today, our country is confronted by an unprecedented pandemic, a wave of police brutality, the advance of climate change, and a host of other devastating social and moral crises. These have exposed the great disparities and inequities at the heart of American society like never before. Do we, as Hindu Americans, have an obligation to respond to the urgent new calls for social justice? What does it mean to be Hindu and progressive in the United States today?  How can our dharma strengthen our moral resolve and shape our political engagements? How do we organize our communities and encourage other Hindu Americans to join the modern progressive movement? 

 

Join us as we explore these and other questions of faith and politics at the launch of our new webinar series: “Sadhana as Social Justice: Hindu-Americans and the Modern Progressive Movement.” The first webinar will take place Saturday, July 18th at 12pm EST.

Our first webinar features an interactive discussion with two Hindu American leaders at the forefront of today’s progressive movement: Anurima Rao (Vice Chair, US Commission on International Religious Freedom) and Shekar Krishnan (Co-Founder and Chief Program Officer, Communities Resist Inc). Our panelists have graciously agreed to share their personal experiences as Hindus and progressives participating in current struggles for social justice. The webinar will be a unique opportunity to explore the challenges, opportunities, and obligations that come with being a Hindu American today. “Sadhana as Social Justice” aims to create a public forum for Hindu Americans to ask what it means to bring our spiritual and political commitments together and commit to building a just world where all humans can flourish in peace.
