DC/DOX New Documentary Film Festival

June 11 - June 14

DC/DOX is a new documentary film festival in Washington, DC dedicated to advancing nonfiction storytelling as a vital art form (https://dcdoxfest.com/). The films will play between June 11-14 at the Regal Gallery Place and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, followed by Q&A with the filmmakers and special guests. The DC/DOX festival premieres three powerful films, American Doctor, One in a Million, and Landscapes of Memory.

In American Doctor, three American doctors—Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian—enter Gaza to save lives, but they find themselves caught between medicine and politics, risking everything to expose the truth. One in a Million was filmed over ten years, and follows one girl’s epic journey as she navigates war, exile, and heartbreak, unfolding from Syria to Germany and back again, illuminating the complexities of the refugee experience. Landscapes Memory, follows the director Leah Galant as she journeys through Germany, confronting family trauma and the legacy of Holocaust memory, weaving together the lives of a survivor’s descendant, a Nazi-descendant historian, exiled Palestinian artists, and her father’s ALS to examine the uses and abuses of memory culture.

Together, these films examine the human cost of war, displacement, and inherited trauma, revealing how personal stories of survival, exile, identity, and memory intersect with larger political and historical forces. These screenings are part of our fourth edition, which includes over 113 new films and an industry forum.
